CHARACTER EDUCATION
Character education is very important at CIS. Each month, we focus on one character trait and at the end of the month, two students from our class are awarded a certificate for demonstrating this quality.
June - Gratitude
What better way to end off the year than to show our appreciation and gratitude. We will be making "thank you" cards for our friends, teachers and family members. I am very thankful to each student from Grade 4C for making this year so special. And thank you to parents and family members for your continued support. Way to go Jenny and Toan, for showing gratitude this year!
May - Peacemaking
Congratulations to Nam and Bob! Our class is learning how to resolve conflict in a positive manner. We are developing strategies to control our own anger and are learning how to support each other during conflicts. If for example, you see two friends fighting or arguing at recess, you can encourage them to remain calm and help them resolve the problem peacefully. Stand up for peace in your classroom, in your school yard, in your neighbourhood and throughout your country. `Make the world a better place - for you and for me and the entire human race.` (I love Micheal Jackson).
April - Cooperation
Way to go Christina and Jan for cooperating well with others!
Cooperation is extremely important in our classroom. We are a TEAM. We work together every single day, in partners or in groups. It is so important that we are patient with one another, that we listen to everyone's ideas and that we willingly share our brilliant ideas with others. The best way to learn is through each other.

March - Courage
Congratulations to Linh and Khoi for facing challenges with courage and confidence. Courage means facing fear, pain, danger or a challenge with strength and confidence. People of courage are often change-makers. This year we have learned about many people who have shown courage; Terry Fox, Iqbal, Rick Hansen and Ho Chi Minh.
For this month's character education assembly each student in Grade 4 will research a courageous person. At the end of the month, they will dress like this person and present a speech in first-person. This will be called The Living Wax Museum of Courage.

February - Perseverance
This month's trait is perseverance. This award will be given to students who has confidence in themselves and who always tries their very best. These students are not willing to give up. Even in the face of adversity, they show courage and rise to the occasion. The class will be traveling on a field trip to X-Rock for some rock climbing. Perseverance and courage are the key to success in this challenging activity. It should be a ton of fun!
January - Optimism
Congratulations to Yuya and Christina for showing optimism. Being optimistic means maintaining a positive outlook, even in difficult situations. If you focus on the positive and are optimistic, you can turn a bad experience into a positive outcome. Be optimistic! Believe in yourself!
December - Caring
Congratulations to Felix and Monica! These two students have demonstrated caring all throughout the year. I was especially proud of their compassion for the boys and girls of the Hope Shelter. After reading the story "One Hen," our class decided to raise money to buy hens for the orphans. The whole class should caring and contributed in some way, but Felix and Monica expressed a very real concern for these children. Thanks Monica and Felix.
November - Integrity
A round of applause goes out to Nam and Huong for showing integrity this month. What is integrity? Integrity means listening to your conscience and doing the right thing - just because you know it's the right thing. It means taking care of your responsibilities and being honest with others. Congratulations to you two for your honesty and integrity!
October - Responsibility
Hats off to Bob and Alice, this month's recipients of the Responsibility Award. Thank you for being responsible students; for using your planners on a daily basis and for completing your assigned homework. Thank you for also being responsible global citizens; for taking care of the Earth and all living things. Congratulations!
September - Respect
Congratulations to Huong and Toan, recipients of the Respect Award for the month of September. You are both very deserving students. Thank you for showing respect to your teacher, classmates and to yourselves. Great job!
