Daily Homework Schedule
Grade 4 is a very important year for students, both academically and socially. It is a bridge between the Primary and Junior grades. An important step for students at this age is to begin developing their study habits.
I believe that helping your child develop strong homework routines now is essential for their continued growth in the years to come. Time management and responsibility are both important life skills, which will ensure their future success.
It is my recommendation that your family establish daily routines so that your child knows when and where to complete their homework. I would like to suggest that you allocate a special, quiet place for your child to work uninterrupted. I would also suggest that you designate certain times during the evening for completing homework.
A sample homework schedule might look as follows:
After school: Spend 30 minutes relaxing or playing outside
Before Dinner: Complete any incomplete math homework (many students finish their math homework at school)
After Dinner: Spend 10-15 minutes researching online for science or social studies projects, or playing online math games
Before Bed: Read aloud by themselves or with a family member. Please take the time to talk to your child about what they are reading. Ask them to retell parts of the story or to tell you their favourite part.
This is my recommendation for an effective daily homework schedule. Of course I understand that we all have different schedules and that some children are in after-school programs or take weekly music lessons. Please feel free to make any adjustments to best suite your own personal needs. As with any schedule, there are times when some flexibility is necessary, or even beneficial.
